The Best Time Of The Year To Put Up A Bird House

B.B.E.

Bird Houses should be put up long before the breeding season.  This could be in the late part of summer and into fall. This gives the wild birds a chance to find and get use to the new bird houses in their area.  It is a better idea to leave the bird houses up all year long so they can be used as a shelter in bad winter weather.  It will be best if you clean out your bird houses after the breeding season has ended. A safe time to do this could be mid fall.  Remove all of the nesting materials and wash out the bird house with a mixture of 1 part house hold bleach mixed with 10 parts of water.  This will kill any bacteria that may harm the birds in the  seasons to come.  Then rinse the house out with just water after that. If you have taken the bird house down, then let it dry good before putting it up again as a winter shelter for your wild birds.
